GORE™ PTFE Laminates

Filter-Tex Media manufacters GORE™ membrane filter media products for dry and wet filtration applications. GORE™ expanded PTFE membrane filter bags provide you with the opportunity to operate your fabric filter at maximum efficiency. This is made possible because they function on the basis of the principal of surface filtration. The basic difference between surface filtration and in depth filtration is the fact that with GORE™ membrane filter bags, dust and fume particles are collected on the surface of a non-stick microporous PTFE membrane. This provides numerous advantages such as reduced emission levels, continuous operation at low-pressure drop, increased bag life, ability to handle moist and sticky products, and reduced maintenance costs.

Advantages over other materials

Depth vs Surface Filtration

Traditional (non-membrane) filter media rely on depth filtration. Conventional in depth filter media allows some dust particles to escape through the material, particularly during the cleaning cycle. Their efficiency is dependent on the formation of a primary dust cake just below and on the surface of the material. Over time, the fabric becomes plugged, making it harder to maintain consistent gas flow rates. Even worse, a depth filter can still allow particles to eventually pass through completely.

GORE™ membrane filter bags offer surface filtration, providing maximum efficiency with minimum pressure drop. The GORE™ membrane acts as the primary dust cake and positively prevents emissions, even during the cleaning cycle. It also prevents any dust particles from entering the membrane backing material. GORE™ fabrics approach 100% efficiency at submicron levels by collecting all particulate on the membrane surface. With its superior cake release, the filtering process achieves lower pressure drops after each cleaning cycle and lower average pressure drop over the life of the bag.

Advantages over other materials

  • Superior cake release
  • Consistently higher gas flow
  • High filtration efficiency and near zero emissions
  • Resistance to membrane damage
  • Increased production
  • Lower fan energy cost
  • Lower differential pressure
  • Increased bag life
  • Lower maintenance cost resulting from less frequent bag changes.

Due to the fine pore structure of the GORE™ membrane, the permeability of GORE® and GORE™ bags is lower than that of conventional media.

Consequently the initial pressure drop is slightly higher than that of conventional filter bags. However, the release characteristics exhibited by the GORE™ membrane allows operation at near clean bag conditions, which ensures maximum suction at all times.

GORE® and GORE™ membrane filter bags are suitable for all bag filters which utilise pulse jet, reverse air or shaker cleaning mechanisms.

The maximum temperature capability of GORE™ laminate is 260ºC. A wide selection of laminate backings (Nomex, Glass etc.) is available to deal with high temperatures and adverse chemical conditions.
